THIS ONE IS REALLY IMPORTANT,PLEASE READ IT
Hey guys, it has come to my attention that some comments I made about my designs for Runaways have been misinterpreted, a common mistake when your first language is not English, so bear with me to make it right this time.
The confusion started when I blogged, “Xavin won’t be a girl Skrull, editorial make a note on that already, that one will change completely.”
What I was trying to say is that I was redesigning the kids in order to get approval from the editorial staff, nothing more. In issue one, we will see Xavin in his boy shape, so when he is with the boys he is shaping to male, but mainly Xavin remains in her girl shape, because of her relationship with Karolina, which takes a pretty interesting direction (sorry, no spoilers today).
This comment was in response to DAVID who wrote me, complaining that that SHE looked “too hot,” saying, “Less boobs, please. I’ve seen your art for years and you can do better than these spandex versions of Xavin (not “the Skrull girl”) and Nico. Otherwise, welcome aboard.
My response was only my way of saying, ”Hey, don’t worry. This is no the final design.” But sometimes some people try to read hidden messages where there are none.
Marvel Comics is home to me, and one of the many reason for that to be is because they are a progressive-thinking company that cares about issues way beyond comic books. Yes, I get paid to draw funny books, but I also care a lot about the world around me – in all its diversity. I personally respect and care about people, and I don’t give a damn about their favorite color, baseball team, or who they chose to love.
I just want to set the record straight.

Also, I wanted to say thanks for the awesome new sketchbook. I can’t wait to read Fairy Quest when it comes along. Your designs are truly fantastic.

Y que trabajo en una empresa sonde se hacen ilustraciones de y para adolescentes y hemos tenido mas de un debate sobre la rotundidad de las curvas…

Humberto estan guapisimos tus diseños, ya era hora que entrara algo de aire fresco en el mundillo del comic.
Haz el caso justo de las opiniones, para gustos los colores, todas son buenas e importantes, pero tu trabajo y estilo es genial para cualquier comic. Las Mexico’s Force se imponen en el mundo de los superheroes jejejeje.
Las chicas estan fantásticas, como decimos por españa: ¡¡Estan pa darle lo suyo!!! Con mujeres así da gusto que lo rescaten a uno.

I really love your takes on the characters, especially chase and molly. I think your an excellent artist, and thanks for saying hi to me at comic con.
THe only thing I don’t agree with is nico’s fashions. Int he beginning she was more of a romantic goth and whatnot (homemade corsets, heavy on the black and renaissance faire stuff) , but in the recent sketches she looks vaguely lolita.

Keep your chin up. Its your creativity that has served you well all these years. You can’t please everyone, so don’t try. Design the characters the way you want, someone else’s taste is beyond your control.
And if they still don’t like it, send them my way and I’ll straighten them out

As I was one of the people crazily up in arms about this (lol) I just wanted to say this is very gladdening news. I just wanted to let you know though, that I never thought you were a bigot nor did I think you had any problems with minority groups since going by your blog you seem like a really cool guy. I, and others, were just worried that Xavin’s sexuality wasn’t something Marvel felt was appropriate and it’s great that this has been cleared up.
I also wanted to apologise for any distress this may have caused you and to let you know that none of the discontent about the “boy skrull” comment was ever directed at you.

hi man.
i dont know if you will read it so long after the article was post, but i wanted to tell you a few things (and sorry if my language will sound a little weird, because english isnt my first language too, im from israel…..)
so…first, i really like your drawing style, it has a very neat environment in it, something new and great that you can’t explain, and as a big marvel fan (as big as you can get in israel, we got, like, three comic book store in all the country!) when i heard your gonna do the runaways, i sayd “wow, thats gonnabe awsome!” so, since that i onley read one of the volume 3 (most of the comic i read ar from the web, the marvel site) and i really really liked it, it was awsome as i thought it will be.
dont change the xavin girl, no metter what that guy says, in that sneek-peek the xavin girl looked way better than any xavingirl in the comics before it (and as apropriate to a character who can change its look, right? )
so, have a great day, and dont stop the fun!
